On May 8, 2006; Six candidates for Mayor of San Jose participated in a debate at Northside Community Center, located in Japantown. This event was sponsored by the San Jose Japanese American Citizens League and the League of Women Voters, San Jose/Santa Clara County.

Participants were:

• Cindy Chavez
• Dave Cortese
• Michael Mulcahy
• David Pandori
• Chuck Reed
and in his Mayoral forum debut - Michael Macarelli
