CSJ Ep018: Cindy Chavez - Education Town Hall (West Valley Branch Library, May 11, 2006)

Note: This is not an endorsement, but rather an additional channel to allow Citizen’s to become familiar with the candidate. Similar recordings have been made for other candidates and all candidates have been offered to have their outreach meetings recorded.

May 11, 6:00 pm:
Cindy Chavez hosted an open, public ‘Town Hall’ at the West Valley library and this is a recording of that event. From Cindy’s site:

The central challenge for the next Mayor of San Jose is how to use all of our resources, assets and talented people to achieve the highest quality of life of any big city in the nation. Making San Jose the best place in America to live, work, play, and learn is my goal.

That’s why I hosted an Education Town Hall on Thursday May 11th at the West Valley Branch Library. This event was open to the public and provided an opportunity for us, as parents, teachers, community members and public officials, to discuss how we can work together to improve our schools and the education system in San Jose.

CSJ Ep017: Another SJ Mayoral Debate - Burnett Academy (May 4, 2006)

On May 4, 2006; Four candidates for Mayor of San Jose participated in a debate at Burnett Academy. This event was sponsored by the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association in cooperation with:

Rosemary Gardens NA
Vendome NA
Hensley Historical District NA
Japantown NA.

Participants were:
Dave Cortese
Michael Mulcahy
David Pandori
Chuck Reed

Though she originally confirmed her attendance with the organizers of the event, a conflict arose and Cindy Chavez ultimately did not attend. “Obviously, it would have made for a better debate if she were there but these mixups happen especially in this busy election season.” said the President of the Hyde Park NA.

This debate was a little different than all the other formats. Moderator Scott Herhold, columnist for the Mercury News, had specific questions tailored for each candidate and each candidate was allowed to ask a direct question to each of the other candidates. It made for an interesting exchange.

City of Los Angeles Police Department - Blogging?
Monday May 15th 2006, 11:17 am

A recent story just popped up on BoingBoing this morning and caught my attention: It looks like the LAPD has started to blog and share their images with flickr. How cool is that? Now, I doubt that we’ll get sensitive information or anything like that, but I think that it will help go a long way to opening communication between the LAPD and, well, just about everyone else. From the Chief:

Our online journal is an interactive tool that we use to deliver real-time, unfiltered information. We invite you to take a look inside the Department to learn more about the men and women in blue who have sworn to protect and to serve you.
By using this Blog, the LAPD hopes to maintain an open dialogue with the communites we serve and those who have an interest in the men and women of this organization. We encourage you to express your opinions about current events through respectful and insightful discussion. We reserve the right to refuse to post those comments that contain inappropriate language and/or material. In the near future, we intend to expand our Blogging capabilities to all 19 Area Stations.

Now, I don’t need to point out that we are in the middle of Silicon Valley, isn’t it high-time that our local government get on with it and start using tools to help increase communication with the Citizens? RSS, Weblogs, Flickr, Tags, Buller, Buller?
